What's the best running shoe?

I've been wearing ASICS GT-2000's since I started distance running over 15 years ago! They saw me through many years of marathon and half-marathon training. A couple years ago I tried out Kayano's and have been alternating between the two, but I've noticed neither last me nearly as long as my running shoes used to. Any other recommendations to try out (ASICS or otherwise)?
